Dashing To The Dives . . .

Photobucket

Saturday's Christmas, and by the end of the night you're going to need to get away from the folks.

Here's your easy escape plan, a list of several bars open on Christmas night.

Happy Eggnogging!

Bijan's Bistro: Open until 5am, the River North restaurant serves tasty American pub grub along with a decent wine and beer list. Definitely make a stop here if the turkey was too dry to your liking. You will not be alone.

Butch McGuire's: If you're trying to escape Christmas, this is not the place to go. But if you're looking to embrace it in all its glory, Butch McGuire's gets into the spirit like no other with larger-than-life kitschy decorations. You're certain to run into a lot of tourists here as well.

Carol's Pub: The hard-rockin' honky tonk is everything you want in a neighborhood dive—and more. Cheap beer, live country music, darts and an occasional bar brawl.

Danny's: The homey hangout feels just like your best friend's college apartment with its worn-in furniture and warm, candlelit atmosphere. Deejays spin occasionally, but if not the music is still groovy. Remember to bring cash because they don't accept plastic.

Lottie's Pub: Just to remind you that it's Christmas, Santa will make a special appearance and one lucky patron will win a brand new Fender guitar. Also, drink specials: $3.50 Newcastle drafts and $6 Santa Bombs (3 Olives Cherry and Red Bull).

The Matchbox: Go ahead and squeeze in at the bar because it's totally worth it here for the oversize Gimlets and chocolate martinis. The best thing about this spot is that the shakers are so big that there's always enough pour leftover for another cocktail.

Underground Wonder Bar: This will be the last Christmas you'll get to spend at the after-hours live-music lounge because it's closing at this original location in early January. Big Bad Ass Company Band is certain to keep you warm with fresh jazz, blues, reggae and funk until 4:30am.
