I don't think I can contain myself.

First we found out about the Quick Fire Competition Series with star chefs from Perennial Virant (Paul Virant) and The Bristol (Chris Pandel) going head to head with barbecue.

And today comes word that two more local chefs are going at it. This time it's with paella, and it's going down at 6pm August 25 at Mercat a la Planxa.

The competition coincides with the annual Spanish festival, La Tomatina, a weeklong event best known for participants throwing tomatoes at each other the last Wednesday in August.

There's also a paella-cooking contest during La Tomatina, and to honor the tradition, Mercat's Chef de Cuisine Cory Morris and Blackstone Hotel Executive Chef Eric Liebtag will face-off during a three-course dinner with wine and cocktail pairings. Each chef will have the assistance of a surprise sous chef. It's $75 and reservations are required.

Too bad Mercat's not doing the tomato-throwing thing too because there's quite a few folks I would love to see dripping in red!
