Important Stuff Happening In April

Chicago's dining scene never slows down, as evidenced by some very cool events happening in April:

Former Top Chef Texas contestant Chuy Valencia, who formerly was a partner in Lakeview spot Chilam Balam, is writing a cookbook and needs your help. He's testing recipes for M.E.A.L.S.: Menus, Entrees, Anecdotes, Lies and Some truth to protect the innocent and equally evil and needs guinea pigs. The event happens April 2 at a private home, and you can possibly get an invite by tweeting him @chuyvalencia.

Amaro, an Italian herbal liqueur, is red hot right now, and one spot guaranteed to honor it in all its glory is Letizia's Fiore during a dinner on April 3. Master mixologist Adam Seger teams up with Enoteca Roma's Sean Malone to pair Amaro-based cocktails with multiple courses. Cocktail party starts at 7:30pm; dinner follows. $55 per person.

April is Autism Awareness Month, and to recognize it, Hub 51, Paris Club and RPM Italian are donating $1 of every specialty cocktail to Generation Rescue.

April's also National Florida Tomato Month, and at least one Chicago resto is taking advantage of it. Benny's Chop House is featuring a Florida tomato and pesto flatbread for $8.99.

It's also National Grilled Cheese Month, so eat 'em up at your favorite spots. Note also that Mity Nice features a grilled cheese with tomato jam on country sourdough on April 12; and deca RESTAURANT + BAR's pairing gourmet grilled cheese with beer April 23-30. Choose from smoked brisket with Wisconsin pepper jack; wild mushrooms with charred sweet onions and Gruyere; and Benton ham and Hook's cheddar waffle.

Oh, and don't forget that a little event called BaconFest happens on April 14.
