'Ride For AIDS,' 'West Town Pup Crawl' & Other Fun Charity Events To Support In June

June is National Pride Month, which celebrates the LGBT community, and there are plenty of events happening all month long.

To kick off the festivities, Ride for AIDS happens at 7:30pm Friday, June 7 at Flywheel Chicago. It's a chance to get your workout in with an intense, 45-minute spin class while socializing with those who believe in the cause. Madly popular Flywheel instructor Candy Morales teaches.

The event also includes a post-class reception that's generously sponsored by Halsted's, Hydrate and Replay Beer & Bourbon. It's $25 per person (or $10 if you're only attending the reception). Sign up for the class right here.

On another front, Antique Taco hosts a guest chef series each month to benefit various charities and Peninsula Chicago's Lee Wolen is the star for June. His surf & turf taco, made with pork and octopus, highlights the menu and a portion of the proceeds from each sale benefits Common Threads.

Happening also all month is Signature Room at the 95th's goodwill toward the Careers Through Culinary Arts Program. The restaurant's donating 10 percent from June sales to the non-profit organization supporting kids desiring gigs in the food and beverage industry.

Also, grab your pooch and head to the West Town Pup Crawl, happening 6-9pm every Tuesday through Sept. 3. It's an opportunity to mingle with like-minded dog lovers while supporting dog rescue groups like A Dog’s Day Rescue and A Safe Humane. The crawl occurs at Mahoney’s Pub & Grille, J. Patrick’s and Matchbox with food and drink specials at each venue. A portion from the specials benefits the featured rescue group.

June 7 is National Doughnut Day, and Firecakes celebrates by making a "dough-nation" to the Salvation Army. They're giving away 100 percent of the day's profits and every customer who makes a purchase gets a free Old Fashioned buttermilk doughnut. The doughnuts are priced $2-$3 in tempting flavors like maple glazed pineapple and bacon, lemon Verbena meringue, coconut creme and chocolate hazelnut Long John.

Bailiwick Chicago Theater gets into a Justin Timberlake frame of mind with a Suit & Tie after work party. The event happens 6:30-8:30pm Wednesday, June 12 at Hotel Palomar (505 N. State St.) with an open bar, hors d'oeuvres and pop-up performances from company members of Bailiwick. It's an opportunity to learn more about the theater and possibly join the board. It's $100 per person and the tickets may be purchased right here.

And the sixth-annual Chefs on the Grill takes place outside of Park Grill in Millennium Park. A number of Chicago's most buzzed-about chefs compete on the grill to support Special Olympics Chicago/Special Children's Charities. Each chef will create a grilled dish and attendees will taste samples and vote for their favorite. The winning chef will receive a Chefs on the Grill trophy and, of course, bragging rights until next year’s event. Participating chefs include Brian Jupiter (Frontier), Trevor Hoyte (IPO), Pete Coenen (The Gage), Cory Morris (Mercat a la Planxa), Andrew Deuel (Tesori) and Bernie Laskowski (Park Grill). It takes place 5:30-9pm Wednesday, June 19. The tickets are $75 in advance; $90 at the door. Tickets may be purchased right here.
